Description

The role of a Controller within the pipeline network is crucial, involving the safe and efficient management of petroleum product movement. This is achieved through the operation of highly specialized equipment, following a predetermined schedule and instructions. The position requires a focus on product volume and quality, personnel safety, asset protection, and the satisfaction of both internal and external stakeholders.

The Controller program is designed to equip trainees with the necessary skills to manage pipeline operations effectively. This includes training in risk management, system operations, and maintenance tasks, ensuring that controllers are well-prepared to handle the complexities of pipeline management.

Responsibilities

Trainee controllers are expected to develop proficiency in the following areas:

  • Implementing risk and pollution control measures.
  • Communicating risk status information to relevant stakeholders and documenting reports.
  • Extracting and analyzing data from systems for risk status reporting.
  • Ensuring compliance with company and legislative regulations concerning safety and operational procedures.
  • Monitoring separator tanks and detecting leaks or spillages.
  • Managing transmixtures/intermixtures and utilizing company systems for operational control.
  • Planning and executing blending and tanker loading procedures.
  • Conducting minor maintenance tasks, both scheduled and unscheduled.
  • Communicating and executing the launching of Pigs and Spheres in accordance with company procedures.
  • Performing product metering to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following educational requirements:

  • Possession of a Grade 12 certificate with Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • N3 Technical Engineering qualification in fields such as Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Metering Control & Instrumentation.
