The African Development Bank (AfDB), established in 1964, is Africa’s premier development institution, dedicated to promoting economic growth and social progress across the continent. The Senior Investment Officer Internship at AfDB focuses on private sector infrastructure investment, particularly within the Infrastructure and Urban Development Department (PICU) under the Infrastructure, Private Sector, and Industrialization (PIVP) Vice Presidency. Interns will work on identifying business opportunities, structuring transactions, and supporting non-sovereign investment operations related to transport and urban development infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Interns will contribute by:

  • Supporting project development and processing for investment transactions.
  • Collaborating with Investment Officers and Bank staff to build a pipeline of quality investment opportunities.
  • Conducting market research and identifying investment opportunities based on market potential and credit quality.
  • Preparing project concept notes, appraisal reports, and supporting loan, guarantee, or equity financing transactions.
  • Developing investment promotion strategies targeting potential investors across Africa.
  • Assisting with legal documentation, due diligence, and financial closing of deals.
  • Engaging with government officials, clients, and partners to foster investment relationships.
Qualifications
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, handle tight deadlines, and deliver high-quality results.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in project finance, particularly in infrastructure and emerging markets.
  • Strong analytical, financial structuring, and business judgment skills; experience in financial modeling.
  • Knowledge of Africa’s economic development and market trends, especially in transport infrastructure sectors (Ports, Airports, Highways, Mass Transit).
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Banking, preferably with a bachelor’s degree in civil or transport engineering.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication skills in French or English, with a working knowledge of the other language.
