Description

The De Beers Group Trainee Sorter Internship Programme for 2024/2025 is designed to develop the expertise necessary to accurately sort and value rough diamonds. This role is integral in supporting the effective trade of rough diamonds by utilizing the 4C's principles established by the De Beers Group.

This internship encompasses hands-on training, requiring participants to sort and value rough diamond production while concurrently enhancing their understanding and skills. Trainees are expected to adhere to precise codified processes and employ specialized sorting tools, techniques, and technologies to meet role objectives within specific deadlines and in compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Escalate security non-compliances to Senior Production Controller or Audit.
  • Operate bespoke sorting technology safely and accurately capture required data.
  • Conduct routine operations on computer systems and apply available systems to carry out tasks.
  • Engage constructively in meetings and identify personal development needs with Senior Training Instructor.
  • Report unsafe conditions or behaviors to the SHE department.
  • Fulfill Automated Diamond Capture functions to meet deadlines.
  • Perform all tasks safely and in accordance with organizational SHE standards.
  • Utilize resources to improve technical abilities and seek assistance for technical development areas.
  • Complete production workload to agreed quality standards using a Right-First-Time approach.
  • Support and actively participate within the department and across team functions.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment and meet departmental and pipeline deadlines.
  • Maintain security, integrity, and confidentiality of products and intellectual property.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12/Matric with a minimum 50% pass mark in Mathematics, English, and another official language.
  • Previous experience in Diamond Valuation/Grading is advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

  • Good eyesight, not color blind.
  • Good hand-eye coordination, 3-dimensional visualization skills, and manual dexterity.
  • Physical capability to perform specified tasks.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Reliable, flexible, enthusiastic, and possess effective timekeeping.
  • Strong listening, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and Word.
  • Ability to follow instructions with honesty and integrity.
  • Willingness to work in a controlled security environment.
  • Team-oriented, deadline-driven, detail-conscious, and routine-oriented.
