Program Overview

The Aspirant Prosecutor Training Programme is a structured, 12-month initiative designed to equip candidates with the skills and knowledge required for effective prosecution. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will undergo a formal assessment to evaluate their competency for appointment as prosecutors. This program strictly adheres to the Code of Conduct and Policy Directives set by the National Director of Public Prosecutions. The program will be conducted across various locations in South Africa, including Vaal (Benoni), Johannesburg, Randburg, Bloemfontein, Welkom, Ladysmith, Kimberley, Klerksdorp, Mthatha, Bellville, Polokwane, Thohoyandou, Modimolle, and Middelburg.

Responsibilities

A key responsibility of the aspirant prosecutors is to engage in a comprehensive training regime that encompasses both theoretical and practical elements of prosecutorial duties. Participants are expected to demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and credibility throughout the program. Upon placement, aspirant prosecutors must consistently comply with established prosecutorial codes and directives.

Qualifications

Eligible applicants must possess a completed Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. Final-year LLB students may apply, provided they complete their studies before the commencement of the program. Applicants must be unemployed, without any prior legal experience or participation in Practical Vocational Training for legal practitioners. South African citizenship is mandatory. Permanent employees of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJ&CD) and the NPA who meet these criteria are also eligible to apply.

Job Benefits

Participants of this program will gain invaluable experience and mentorship under the guidance of senior prosecutors. This training offers a unique opportunity to develop a profound understanding of legal procedures, thereby enhancing employability within the legal profession. Successful aspirants may be considered for permanent or contract positions as District Court Prosecutors, although placement is subject to the discretion of the NPA and may occur at any office nationwide.

How to Apply?

Interested candidates are required to submit their applications by the closing date of September 2, 2024. The selection process includes an entry examination, and only candidates who excel in this examination will proceed to subsequent stages of selection. A written contract outlining the conditions of service will be signed between the NPA and the aspirant prosecutors.
